Term 2 2024

Students this term will be looking at a story called ‘Tutup Pintu. The purpose of this story is to introduce vocabulary about school and instructional language. The story includesrevision of prevous vocabulary and new target structures pada jam-at __o’clock; tutup pintu-close the door; buka-open; dia-he/she; juga-also; bersekolah-go to school; –nya-his/hers; tetapi-but; sampai-arrives; datang-comes; tangkap-catches; polisi-police.

Sarah pandai tetapi dia nakal juga.  

Pada jam tujuh pagi Sarah pergi ke sekolah.

Ibunya berkata “Tutup pintu!”  

Tetapi Sarah tidak tutup pintu.   

Sarah tidak mau tutup pintu! 

Pada jam delapan Sarah sampai di sekolah.   

Pada jam sembilan Sarah pergi ke ruang olah raga.  

Sarah buka pintu, tetapi dia tidak tutup pintu.   

Ibu Irvine berkata “Tutup pintu!” 

Tetapi Sarah tidak tutup pintu. 

Sarah tidak mau tutup pintu. 

Pada jam sebelas Sarah pergi ke ruang musik. 

Sarah buka pintu tetapi tidak tutup pintu.   

Ibu Britten berkata “Tutup pintu!” 

Tetapi Sarah tidak tutup pintu. 

Sarah tidak mau tutup pintu! 

Pada jam satu sarah pergi ke ruang komputer. 

Sarah buka pintu tetapi tidak tutup pintu. 

Pak Jucius berkata “Tutup pintu!”

Pada jam dua Sarah sampai di ruang bahasa Indonesia.

Term 1 2024

Students this term will be looking at a story called ‘Keluarga Saya. The purpose of this story is to introduce vocabulary about family and descriptions. The story includessome new target structures kuat-strong; sekali-very; rambut-hair;umur-age; tahun-years old;ibu-mum; bapak-dad;kakak-older siling;adik-youger sibling; nenek-grandma;kakek-grandpa;keluarga-family;kacamata-glasses;masak-cook;pakai-wears.  This story also revises number and colour.   Through the story students will hear and participate in a variety of games and activities to help them acquire Indonesian language.

Halo, nama saya Beni.  Umur saya tujuh tahun.  Rambut saya jingga.  Saya suka eskrim coklat.

Term 4 2023

Students this term will be looking at a story called ‘Dua Orangutan yang lucu sekali.’ The purpose of this story is to revise numbers, colours and family while also looking at some popular Indonesian foods and encourage discussion on Indonesian flora and fauna. The story includes some new target structures kalian-you (plural); teman-friend; bersamasama-together; selalu-always; lucu-cute/funny and banyak-lots.

Through the story students will hear repetition and participate in a variety of games and activities to help them acquire Indonesian language. 

 

Dua Orang Utan yang lucu sekali 

Di hutan di Sumatra tinggal dua orang utan.  Namanya Lina dan Budi. 

Lina dan Budi teman.  Mereka selalu bersama-sama. 

Pada hari Senin Lina makan satu mangga jingga karena dia lapar.  Budi makan juga.  

Ibu berkata ‘Kalian dua orangutan yang lucu sekali.’ 

Pada hari Selasa Lina makan dua apel hijau karena dia lapar.  Budi makan juga.  

Bapak berkata ‘Kalian dua orangutan yang lucu sekali.’ 

Pada hari Rabu Lina makan tiga pisang kuning karena dia lapar.  Budi makan juga.  

Adik berkata ‘Kalian dua orangutan yang lucu sekali.’ 

Pada hari Kamis Lina makan empat rambutan merah karena dia lapar.  Budi makan juga.  

Kakak berkata ‘Kalian dua orangutan yang lucu sekali.’ 

Pada hari Jumat Lina dan Budi makan lima kelapa coklat.  

Kakek berkata ‘Kalian dua orangutan yang lucu sekali.’ 

Pada hari Sabtu ada pesta.  

Di pesta Lina dan Budi makan nasi, mie goreng, sate, krupuk dan kue.  

Aduh, Lina dan Budi makan terlalu banyak.  Mereka sakit sekali. 

Pada hari Minggu Lani mau tangkap harimau. Dan Budi?  Dia juga. 

Lina dan Budi dua orang utan yang lucu sekali. 

 

Two Orangutans that are very funny 

In the jungle in Sumatra live two orangutans.  They’re names are Lina and Budi. 

Lina and Budi are friends.  They are always together. 

On Monday Lina eats one orange mango, because she is hungry.  Budi eats too. 

Mum says ‘You are two orangutans that are very funny!’ 

On Tuesday Lina eats two green apples, because she is hungry.  Budi eats too. 

Dad says ‘You are two orangutans that are very funny!’ 

On Wednesday Lina eats three yellow bananas, because she is hungry.  Budi eats too. 

Younger sibling says ‘You are two orangutans that are very funny!’ 

On Thursday Lina eats four red rambutan, because she is hungry.  Budi eats too. 

Older sibling says ‘You are two orangutans that are very funny!’ 

On Friday Lina and Budi eat five green coconuts, because they are hungry. 

Grandpa says ‘You are two orangutans that are very funny!’ 

On Saturday there is a party. 

At the party Budi and Lina eat rice, fried noodles, satay, prawn crackers, and cake. 

Oh no, Lina and Budi have eaten too much.  They are very sick. 

On Sunday Lina wants to catch a tiger.  And Budi?  Him too. 

Lina and Budi are two orangutans that are very funny! 

 

Term 3 2023

Students this term will be looking at a story called ‘Mau ke mana?’  This story has been designed for students to become familiar with the very commonly asked question in Indonesia “Where are you going?  New vocabulary will include descriptions of people (tinngi, pendek, tua, muda, berkumis, berambut, lucu); places (pulau, hutan, gunung api; taman nasional); yang paling; kepada; bawa. 

As this story introduces a high number of new vocabulary.  We will introduce this story as an embedded reading.  What this means, is that we have three versions of the story.  Story 1 is simplified (minimal new vocab), and will be learned first.  Then we will learn story 2 (more new vocab) before finally being introduced to story 3 with all the new vocab.

Mau ke mana?

Ada laki-laki tua duduk di warung.  Nama dia Pak Dodi.   

Pak Dodi suka bercakap-cakap bersama orang-orang. 

 “Mau ke mana?” berkata Pak Dodi kepada perempuan yang tinggi sekali.   

“Saya mau lihat Gunung Api Bromo.  Saya bawa kamera saya juga. Aduh!  Saya mau pergi!” 

 “Mau ke mana?” berkata Pak Dodi kepada anak yang lucu sekali.   

“Saya mau ke Bali dan Waterbom Park.  Asyik yeah? Saya punya floatie juga.  Ayo Ibu, cepat!” 

 “Mau ke mana?” berkata Pada Dodi kepada Bapak yang berkumis besar.   

“Saya mau ke Jakarta.  Anak laki-laki saya tinggal di Jakarta sekarang.  Kami akan pergi ke MONAS dan Taman mini.”   

 “Mau ke mana?” berkata Pak Dodi kepada Ibu yang berambut ungu.  “Saya mau ke Yogyakarta. 

Di Yogyakarta ada candi Prambanan dan Borobudur. Saya belum lihat tetapi akan bersama teman saya.” 

“Mau ke mana?”  berkata Pak Dodi kepada keluarga besar.  Anak-anak berkata  

“Kami mau ke Raja Ampat. Ada ikan berwarna dan yang paling bagus.  Hebat yeah?” 

 “Mau ke mana?” berkata Pak Dodi kepada peremuan yang muda.  “Saya mau ke Kalimantan.  

Di Kalimantan bisa pergi ke taman nasional dan lihat orangutan di hutan.  Orangutan binantang saya paling suka.” 

 “Mau ke mana?” berkata Pak Dodi kepada Ibu dan anak laki-lakinya yang pendek sekali. 

“Kami mau ke pulau komodo.  Kami suka sekali komodo.  Menyenangkan yeah?  Sampai jumpa.” 

 Pak Dodi pulang …….dan lihat foto-fotonya.   

Dia sudah pergi ke Bromo, Bali, Jakarta, Yogya, Raja Ampat, Kalimantan dan pulau Komodo.   

Dia senang sekali. 

 

Where are you going?

There is an old man who sits in a warung.  His name is Pak Dodi.

Pak Dodi likes to chat with people.

“Where are you going?” says Pak Dodi to a girl that is very tall.

“I want to see Bromo volcano.  I’ve brought my camera also.  Oh no!  I want to go.”

“Where are you going?” says Pak Dodi to a child that is very cute.

“I want to go to Bali and Waterbom Park.  Fun yeah? I have my floaties too.  Come on Mum, fast!”

“Where are you going?” says Pak Dodi to a man with a big moustache.

“I want to go to Jakarta.  My son lives in Jakarta now.  We will go to MONAS and Taman mini.”

“Where are you going?” says Pak Dodi to a lady with purple hair.

“I want to go to Yogyakarta.  In Yogyakarta there are Prambanan and Borrobudur temples.  I’ve never seen them but I’m going with my friend.”

“Where are you going?” says Pak Dodi to a big family.

The chidren say “We want to go to Raja Ampat.  The colourful fish there are the best.  Great yeah?”

“Where are you going?” says Pak Dodi to a young girl,

“I want to go to Kalimantan.  In Kalimantan you can go to the national park and see orangutans in the wild.  Orangutans are my favourite animals.”

“Where are you going?” says Pak Dodi to a mother and her son who are very short.

“We want to go to Komodo island.  We really like komodo dragons.  Exciting yeah?  See you later.”

Pak Dodi goes home…… and looks at his photos.

He has already been to Bromo, Bali, Jarkarta, Yogya, Raja Ampat, Kalimantan and Komodo island.

He is very happy.

 

Term 2 2023

Students this term will be looking at a story called ‘Sudah mandi.’ This story has been designed for students to become familiar with the the very common target structures of sudah (already) and belum (not yet) in Indonesian. Other target structures will include pronouns (dia, kami, mereka) and time markers (dulu, sekarang, nanti). This story revises family vocab from term 1, as well as exploring the cultural concepts of the warung and mandi (both terms that have no direct translation in English).  

 

Sudah mandi? 

 Ada perempuan.  Nama dia Sari. 

Sari tidak suka mandi. 

 

Ibu Sari berkata ‘Sari, sudah mandi, belum?’   

Sari berkata ‘Belum!  Saya mau makan sarapan dulu.  Nanti Bu.’ 

 

Bapak Sari berkata ‘Sari, sudah mandi, belum?’   

Sari berkata ‘Belum!  Saya mau pergi ke sekolah dulu.  Nanti Pak.’ 

 

Nenek Sari berkata ‘Sari, sudah mandi, belum?’ 

Sari berkata ‘Belum!  Saya mau pergi ke perpustakaan dulu.  Nanti Nenek.’ 

 

Kakek Sari berkata ‘Sari, sudah mandi, belum?’ 

Sari berkata ‘Belum!  Saya mau pergi ke rumah teman dulu.  Nanti  Kakek.’

Sari says ‘Not yet!  I want to go to the library first.  Later Grandma.’

 

Sari’s grandpa says ‘Sari, have you already washed, not yet?’

Sari says ‘Not yet!  I want to go to a friend’s house first.  Later Grandpa.’

 

Sari’s older sibling says ‘Sari, have you already washed, not yet?’

Sari says ‘Not yet!  I want to play soccer first.  Later older sibling.’

 

Mum, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa and older sibling say ‘Sari, we want to eat at the warung.  Come on!’

 

They go to the warung.  At the warung people say ‘Oh no!  What is that smell?’

The family looks at Sari and says ‘Sari, have you already washed?!!’

Sari says ‘Already!  But… I stepped in dog poo.  Now I want to wash again!’

 

Term 1 2023

This term will be working on a story called ‘Kita Semua Berbeda- We are all different’. In this story, students will revise family members including pets. Students will be introduced to the language to discuss personal qualities, appearance, personal preference on weather and revision on stating their interests, hobbies, likes and dislikes both in and outside of school.  Target vocab is bersama-together, baik-hati-kind, binatang-animal, bisa-can, berbeda-different, semua-all, teman-friend.

Ada keluarga besar. Ada keluarga kecil.  

Saya tinggal bersama dua bapak. Saya tinggal bersama nenek. Saya tinggal bersama Ibu.

Term 4 2022

This term students will be looking at a story called ‘Ular Lapar’.

This story provides the opportunity for lots of revision of the target structures we have been learning throughout the year, as well as introducing some new structures such as jangan– don’t, kamar kecil toilet, tidak apa-apa– it doesn’t matter, terlalu dekat– too close, di mana– where.  

To acquire this language, students will listen to the story; then read what they’ve heard; then write what they’ve read and heard; before finally having a go at speaking. Students will show comprehension through acting, drawing, translating, recognising and responding to questions and using the vocabulary they have learned to relate back to themselves and their environment.

Term 3 2022

This term students are focusing on a story called ‘Adi menonton televisi terus’ 

The story focuses on the use of language regarding school, scool related objects and time markers.New language will include the words ambil; to take, pergilah; to go, cepat-cepat; fast, Di mana?; where? jam; time/hour, Astaga!; Oh my gosh! Sepatu, shoe. Students will also be revising some previously learnt vocabulary.  Through the storywe will practise target structures and participate in a variety of games and activities to help students acquire Indonesian language.

Term 2 2022

This term we have the storPak Bean gila The story will focus on the target structures of bisa-can; tetapi – but and jangan-don’t.  We will be revising verbs (menyanyibermainberdansa) as well as learning some new verbs (berenang-swim; terbang-fly; bercakapcakap-chat).   We will also be looking at culturally appropriate use of personal pronouns.  Through the storywe will practise target structures and participate in a variety of games and activities to help students acquire Indonesian language.

There is a boy.  His name is Mr Bean.  Mr Bean is stupid.  Mr Bean is very stupid!

Mr Bean gos to Ibu Sharon’s house.  Ibu Sharon is clever!

Term 1 2022

Students this term will be looking at a story called Tomi dan Klara (from LTA Education).  In this story we will revise family members including pets as well as discuss interests, likes and dislikes. This story also gives us the opportunity to for rich classroom discussion around Indonesian culture and families, routines, school, and Halmahera.  In the interest of copywrite I will not post the story, however if the program runs according to plan, then hopefully students will be sharing this story with parents sooner rather than later.

Target vocabulary will include:

Term 4 2021

This term students are focusing on a text calledAmelia tidak diam.’The story focuses on the language of places around town and school.  Through this story students will be able to listen to texts and show comprehension through a variety of activities to identify the vocabulary of bercakapcakap-chats; selalu-always; datang-come; keluar-exit; juga-also; kepada-to (person); membaca-read; sekolah-school and perpustakaan-library.  They will use the vocabulary to relate it to themselves and their classroom environments; and work with modelled language to create texts. 

 

Amelia tidak diam

Ada perempuan.  Nama dia Amelia.  

Amelia selalu bercakap-cakap!   Amelia bercakap-cakap terus.  

Amelia pergi ke Victa Cinema.   Callum pergi ke Victa Cinema juga.

Term 3 2021

Students this term will be looking at a story called ‘Pantai story. In this story we revise family vocabulary and introduce some new target structures including pantai-beach, karena-because, berenang-swim, memancing-fish, ikan lumbalumba-dolphin, ikan hiu-shark, ikan paus-whale, bersilancar pakai surfboard-surfing with a surfboard, menyanyi-sing, menggongong terus-bark constantly, jangan gila-don’t be crazy, lagi-more/again, ikan hiu-shark, takut-scared, bersama/sama-together/with, cepat sekali-very fast, pada harion___day, days of the week, menonton-watch, matahari terbenam-sunset, ayam goreng-fried chicken.  We will also take the opportunity to discuss cultural uses for the beach and traditional and modern housing, making comparisons between Indonesia, Australia and beyond.  Through the story students will hear repetition and participate in a variety of games and activities to help them acquire Indonesian language. 

This is a long story, however it is very repetitive.  We will introduce this story using embedded reading.  This means starting with a very simple version of the story, and then gradually adding more complexity to the story throughout the term.

 

Pantai Story  

Ada keluarga.  

Di keluarga itu ada satu bapak,satu anak laki-laki,  

satu anak perempuan dan satu anjing. 

Bapak malas dan suka menonton televisi.  Nama dia Homer.   

Anak laki-laki mewah dan suka walls.  Nama dia Donald. 

Anak perempuan suka nenek dan merah.  Nama dia Kerudung merah. 

Anjing lucu tetapi bodoh.  Nama dia Scooby Doo. 

 

Pada hari Senin, Donald, Kerudung merah dan Scooby Doo pergi ke pantai karena mau membuat istana pasir. 

Di pantai Kerudung merah lihat satu ikan lumba-lumba.  Kerudung merah berkata ‘Halo ikan lumba-lumba.’ 

Ikan lumba-lumba tidak berkata, ikan lumba-lumba berdansa! 

Donald dan Kerudung merah takut dan berlari pulang cepat-cepat.  Scooby Doo menggongong terus. 

Donald dan Kerudung merah berkata ‘Bapak, bapak, di pantai ada ikan lumba-lumba berdansa!’  

Bapak berkata ‘Jangan gila!  Ikan lumba-lumba tidak bisa berdansa!’ 

 

Pada hari Selasa Donald, Kerudung merah dan Scooby Doo pergi ke pantai lagi karena mau berenang. 

Di pantai Donald lihat satu Ikan hiu itu.  Donald berkata ‘Pergilah ikan hiu.’ 

Ikan hiu tidak pergi. Ikan hiu bersilancar pakai surfboard! 

Donald dan Kerudung merah takut dan berlari pulang cepat-cepat.  Scooby Doo menggongong terus. 

Donald dan Kerudung merah berkata ‘Bapak, bapak, di pantai ada ikan hiu bisa bersilancar pakai surfboard!’   

Bapak berkata ‘Jangan gila!  Ikan hiu tidak bisa bersilancar pakai surfboard!’ 

 

Pada hari Rabu Donald, Kerudung merah dan Scooby Doo pergi ke pantai lagi karena mau memancing. 

Di pantai Scooby lihat ikan paus. Scooby Doo menggongong terus. 

Donald dan Kerudung merah dengar Ikan paus menyanyi!  

Donald dan Kerudung merah takut dan berlari pulang cepat-cepat.  Scooby Doo menggongong terus. 

Donald dan Kerudung merah berkata ‘Bapak, bapak, di pantai ada ikan paus menyanyi!’   

Bapak berkata ‘Jangan gila!  Ikan paus tidak bisa menyanyi!’ 

 

Pada hari Kamis, Bapak, Donald, Kerudung merah dan Scooby Doo pergi ke pantai karena  

mau menonton matahari terbenam dan makan ayam goreng. 

Bapak lihat ikan lumba-lumba, ikan hiu dan ikan paus.    

Ikan lumba-lumba, ikan hiu dan ikan paus berkata ‘Halo.  Apa kabar?’ 

Bapak, Donald dan Kerudung merah takut dan berlari pulang cepat-cepat.  Scooby Doo menggongong terus.

The Beach

There is a family.  In the family there is one dad, one boy, one girl and one dog.

The dad is lazy and likes to watch television.  His name is Homer.

On Monday Donald, Red Riding Hood and Scooby Doo go to the beach because they want to build a sandcastle.

At the beach Red Riding Hood sees a dolphin.  Red Riding Hood says ‘Hello dolphin.’

The dolphin doesn’t speak the dolphin dances!

Donald and Red Riding Hood are scared and run home fast.  Scooby Doo barks constantly.

Donald and Red Riding Hood say ‘Dad, dad, at the beach is a dolphin that can dance!’

Dad says ‘Don’t be crazy.  Dolphins can’t dance!’

 

On Tuesday Donald, Red Riding Hood and Scooby Doo go to the beach because they want to swim.

At the beach Donald sees a shark.  Donald says ‘Go away shark!’

The shark doesn’t go the shark surfs using a surfboard.

On Wednesday Donald, Red Riding Hood and Scooby Doo go to the beach because they want to fish.

At the beach Scooby Doo sees a whale.  Scooby Doo barks constantly.

Donald, Red Riding Hood and Scooby Doo hear the whale singing!

Donald and Red Riding Hood are scared and run home fast.  Scooby Doo barks constantly.

Donald and Red Riding Hood say ‘Dad, dad, at the beach is a whale that can sing!’

On Thursday Dad, Donald, Red Riding Hood and Scooby Doo go to the beach because they want to watch the sunset and eat fried chicken.

At the beach Dad sees the dolphin, shark and whale.  The dolphin, shark and whale say ‘Hello.  How are you?’

Dad, Donald, Red Riding Hood are scared and run home fast.  Scooby Doo barks constantly.

The dolphin, shark and whale run home too.

Dad said ‘Don’t eat us!’

The dolphin, shark and whale said ‘Don’t be crazy.  We want to eat fried chicken too!’

Students this term will be looking at a story called ‘Tutup Pintu’ (story by Anne Matava).  The purpose of this story is to introduce vocabulary about school and instructional language.  The story includes revision of prevous vocabulary and new target structures pada jam-at __o’clock; tutup pintu-close the door; buka-open; dia-he/she; juga-also; bersekolah-go to school; -nya-his/hers; tetapi-but; sampai-arrives; datang-comes; tangkap-catches; polisi-police.  Through the story students will hear and participate in a variety of games and activities to help them acquire Indonesian language.

 

TUTUP PINTU – Anna Matava

Sarah pandai, tetapi dia nakal juga.

Sarah goes to the gym.

Sarah opens the door.  But she doesn’t shut the door.

Mr Robbie says ‘Shut the door!’ But Sarah doesn’t shut the door.  Sarah doesn’t want to shut the door.

 

At nine o’clock Sarah arrives at the Indonesian room.

Term 4 2020

 This term students will be looking at a story called ‘Ular Lapar’. This story provides the opportunity for lots of revision of the target structures we have been learning throughout the year, as well as introducing some new structures such as jangan– don’t, kamar kecil toilet, tidak apa-apa– it doesn’t matter, terlalu dekat– too close, di mana– where.  To acquire this language, students will listen to the story; then read what they’ve heard; then write what they’ve read and heard; before finally having a go at speaking. Students will show comprehension through acting, drawing, translating, recognising and responding to questions and using the vocabulary they have learned to relate back to themselves and their environment.

The story this term is a traditional Indonesian folktale about kancil and buaya.

Kancil dan buaya

Ada kancil.  Kancil tinggal di hutan.  Di hutan ada sungai. 

Kemarin kancil berjalan kaki ke sungai. 

Kancil lapar.  Kancil lihat mangga di seberang sungai. 

Kancil mau makan mangga tetapi Kancil tidak bisa berenang. 

Kancil lihat buaya di sungai.  Ada banyak buaya lapar di sungai.  Kancil bisa apa? 

Kancil berkata ‘Halo buaya. Ada berapa ekor buaya di sungai?’ 

Buaya berkata ‘Tidak tahu.’ 

Kancil berkata ‘Saya mau menghitung.  Ayo buaya antri.  Buaya antri. 

Kancil melompat dari buaya ke buaya dan menghitung ‘1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10.’ 

Kancil sampai di seberang sungai.  Kancil putar dan tertawa!  Buaya marah sekali 

Kancil senang sekali makan mangga.  Kancil terlalu pandai!

 

Mousedeer and crocodile

There is a mousedeer.  Mousedeer lives in the jungle.  In the jungle there is a river.

The other day mousedeer was walking to the river.

Mousedeer was hungry.  Mousedeer saw mangoes across the river.

Mousedeer wanted to eat the mangoes but mousedeer could not swim.

Mousedeer saw a crocodile in the river.  There are lots of hungry crocodiles in the river.  What can mousedeer do?

Mousedeer said ‘Hello crocodile.  How many crocodiles are in the river?’

Crocodile said ‘I don’t know.’

Mousedeer said ‘I want to count.  Come on crocodiles, line up.’  The crocodiles lined up.

Mousedeer jumped from crocodile to crocodile and counted ‘1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10.’
